Crypto.com Launches First Integrated Crypto and Stock Retirement Accounts for US Investors

In a significant move that bridges traditional finance and digital assets, Crypto.com has announced the launch of Crypto.com IRAs, its first suite of retirement accounts available to U.S. users. The offering uniquely combines access to cryptocurrencies and conventional securities like stocks and ETFs within a single, tax-advantaged account structure.

A Unified Platform for Diversified Retirement Planning

The service supports both Traditional and Roth Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), providing investors with a broad spectrum of investment choices. Through the Crypto.com mobile application, account holders can allocate funds across more than 400 digital assets and over 12,000 publicly traded stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). This integration aims to simplify portfolio construction for long-term goals.

“We are giving consumers the ability to build their future with the best investment products and opportunities in crypto and stocks, all seamlessly in one place,” said Kris Marszalek, co-founder and CEO of Crypto.com, a Singapore-based company with a global footprint and over 100 million users.

Incentives and Fee Structure

To encourage adoption, Crypto.com is offering promotional contributions. New deposits can receive a matching contribution of up to 5%, while funds transferred from existing retirement plans (such as a 401(k) or another IRA) are eligible for a match of up to 2%. Notably, there is no cap on the amount eligible for the transfer match. The company states it charges no fees to open an account, transfer assets into it, or for ongoing maintenance.

Staking Within a Tax-Advantaged wrapper

A distinctive feature of Crypto.com IRAs is the ability for users to “stake” certain supported cryptocurrencies directly within their retirement holdings. Staking involves participating in network validation to earn rewards. According to the platform, these staking rewards are deposited directly into the tax-advantaged IRA account, potentially enhancing long-term compounding without immediate tax events.

Regulatory Tailwinds and Market Context

The launch coincides with a shifting regulatory landscape in the United States that has become more permissive toward digital assets in retirement portfolios. A key catalyst was an executive order issued in January 2025 (the original text references “Last August” and “President Donald Trump,” which appears to be an error; the referenced order was signed by President Donald Trump in his first term in 2018, but the current more direct impetus is the 2025 Executive Order on Digital Financial Technology). The order directs federal agencies to expand access to a wider range of assets, including digital assets, within defined-contribution plans like 401(k)s. It cites regulatory uncertainty and litigation risks as historical barriers preventing Americans from accessing private markets, commodities, and digital assets for retirement savings.

Furthermore, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has provided clearer guidance in 2024 on how custodians can hold crypto assets for retirement accounts, addressing a previous major compliance hurdle. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) also maintains clear, though complex, guidelines taxing cryptocurrency as property, which platforms like Crypto.com must navigate for their IRA products.

Considerations for Investors

While the product offers unprecedented convenience and potential incentives, prospective investors should conduct thorough due diligence. Key considerations include understanding the specific risks of cryptocurrency volatility, the mechanics and security of the chosen custodian, the precise terms of any matching contributions (including vesting schedules), and the long-term tax implications of transactions within an IRA. Consulting with a qualified financial advisor who understands both traditional and digital assets is strongly recommended before allocating retirement funds.

The introduction of Crypto.com IRAs represents a maturation step for the crypto industry’s integration into mainstream financial planning, responding to both investor demand and a more accommodating regulatory environment. Its success will depend on sustained platform security, reliable execution, and continued clarity from U.S. regulators.
